Avery+Jean+Brennan
Avery Jean Brennan, a transfeminine musical theatre artist, performs a Sondheim-esque trilogy that cautions us against putting all our eggs in one basket, and hilariously swaps the definitions of musicals and gender. It’s heartfelt and sharp, with some powerhouse belting.
— Ilana Lucas (Mooney On Theatre)
Avery Jean is ensuring the continued emotional & physical safety of transgender artists & audiences in creative spaces. There is no doubt that they have created opportunities for transgender stories to be told by transgender artists for transgender audiences in our theatre.
— Jeremy Webb, Artistic Director (Neptune Theatre)

Avery Jean (They/Them) is transfeminine producer, actor, musical director, writer, and transgender advocate raised in Kjipuktuk, and now based in Tkaronto. They received their musical directing training through multiple apprentice, assistant, and associate positions at professional theatres across Canada, including a residency through Neptune Theatre’s RBC Chrysalis Project. Additionally, they have studied musical theatre writing under dramaturg Christopher Weddell, composer/lyricist Leslie Arden, and through The Musical Stage Company's NoteWorthy program.

Avery Jean's first original musical, The Pansy Craze, was the recipient of Queer Theatre Toronto's inaugural LGBTQ Fringe Award for pushing boundaries in representation for queer characters on stage. Afterward, they were commissioned by Young People’s Theatre to create and deliver a workshop titled Trans Inclusive Practices in the Arts, which they have toured to theatre & film production companies across Canada.

Their most recent onstage performance was in Neptune Theatre's adaptation of Peter Pan, where they became the first out transfemme to play a transgender character in a professional Canadian musical. They are currently the host & co-producer of Drinkalong Table Reads on Bad Dog Comedy TV.
