Izad Etemadi is an Iranian-Canadian artist originally from Victoria, BC. He is currently based in Toronto, Ontario. He works as an actor, singer, writer and theatre creator. He is a graduate of the Canadian College of Performing Arts and is the proud recipient of the 2017 Emerging Queer Artist Award from Buddies In Bad Times Theatre.
Izad is well known for his hilarious and outrageous solo shows starring his drag alter-ego, Leila. The beloved (and bearded) “Persian Superstar” has taken her shows across the country and made a very brief appearance off-broadway in 2015.
In 2017 he was commissioned by McMaster University to write "We Are Not the Others", a verbatim play about the experiences of immigrants in Canada. In 2020 his first TYA play "1002 Nights" toured across BC. His most recent screen credits include Tall Boyz (CBC), Odd Squad (PBS Kids) and Bajillionaires (Universal Kids).
